Antarctic elements: Ice

The sea was frozen (by courtesy of the tilt of the axis) out beyond the horizon, doubling the area of antarctic ice. A huge area, and yet the effect on the oceans of the moon's force of gravity caused this vast ice sheet over the sea to move up and down with the oceanic tides...Knowing all those huge forces were operating around me must have triggered that feeling of being out of my body: a dispassionate view of being one very small part of a vast powerhouse.
