Cycles of change #1
[2008-05-11]
Cycles of Earth motion
around our axis and the sun
determine the natural cycles
of our brief interglacial periods.
Layer upon layer of data
trapped in ice and sediments
points to the fact that humankind
is upsetting that glacial cycle.
Listening to paleoecologist
Dominic Hodgson
I learn about Milancovitch cycles.
These are the natural cycles
of Earth's glacial and interglacial eras.
Animating to these rhythms
I can make a dance connecting
urban and Antarctic landscapes,
where life forms move with and against
these natural patterns.
Layer upon layer of data
trapped in ice and sediments
points to the fact that humankind
is tipping the natural balance.
Drawings of dancers were made
at the Siobhan Davies studios
London, April 2008.
