Thinking of the road ahead
I feel its past beneath me:
bitumen compressed of lives
that flourished in Gondwanaland.

Travelling in a car
from Beechworth to Sydney,
I drew pictures of the road ahead.
I was thinking of the oil trucks
driving on the bitumen,
and of the life compressed,
that made it.

This road has come
from Gondwanan times.
