Visual improvisations

Shane Dunn
abstract expression
NG ART Gallery
3 July – 21 July
3 Little Queen street Chippendale NSW

This is Shane’s second exhibition of paintings.
Painted textures in tones of brown range from thin to thick, from bare canvas to deep impasto.

Both Barbara Halnan and Shane Dunn make non objective art.

No imagery was consciously intended, Shane tells me.
“There are no titles..they can be whatever you want them to be.”

Unlike the carefully gridded, layered and and delicately textured art of Barbara Halnan, Shane’s paintings were made spontaneously and rapidly.

I enjoy the energetic application of his paint. Each painting seemed the trace of a dance performed before the canvas. Sometimes he works on several canvases at once, completing up to three pieces a day.

I enjoyed the contemplative, purposeful marks of Halnan’s work. Her witty evocations of dual meanings provide a different level of engagement.

Both offer intrigue and involvement.
Barbara Halnan
