Xanthorrhoea

Resin from this Australian native tree is a deep red colour, and can be used like shellac.
Early colonial settlers used it for French polishing.

Christine McMillan uses Xanthorrhoera resin in some of her art works.

Crushing some pieces she has given me, and then dissolving them in methylated spirits, provides a solution for preparing newspapers for drawing.
