The Cold Library of Ice, David Buckland, 2004

David Buckland is an artist, and creator of the Cape Farewell Project. I had been directed to his office by Siobhan Davies, to get a copy of Max Eastley’s music CE, Arctic:

Arctic is a series of sonic images. Their composition involved a process of sifting, editing and constructing from the many hours of recordings made in the Arctic. The work is a summation of my experience of the sublime: exhilaration, fear, and an overwhelming sense of tragedy unfolding before me. I hope that the music communicates my emotion, passion and concern for this fragile natural world.

Yesterday I attended Gill Clarke’s dance class at Siobhan’s studios. It was all about connecting internal and internal landscapes.

Today I drew the class, which was structured in much the same way as yesterday’s.

After two hours of very fast drawing, it felt like the lines changed from describing external forms to describing internal feelings:

One of the first drawings, left,
and one of the last, right.

Yesterday we had spent a long time moving very slowly, with our focus on the simple fact of our bodies in the space. We had worked a lot with the give and take of our weight through the floor.

Today I was drawing that.
