Faculty of Engineering and IT, UTS

Dr Cat Kutay is descended from seafarers of Celtic and Pacific origin. She is a software developer and electrical engineer who has worked with Appropriate Technology and Participatory Co-design in remote Indigenous communities around Australia and the Pacific. She has experience in managing renewable energy and health technology projects.

Cat now works mainly with NSW Aboriginal communities for online language learning and story sharing as a way for Aboriginal culture and knowledge to be integrated into Australian engineering approaches. This work is to provide more relevance for Aboriginal community members to engage with these disciplines and provide all students with a deeper understanding of our heritage and its preservation. Cat is teaching Indigenous Knowledges into the curriculum at UTS through various Faculties based on her experiences, including running various students’ projects with Aboriginal Organisations in construction, design and IT.
