Weasels 02

Weasels superseded huskies for sledging in Antarctica from the 1950s, and stories of both have become legendary.

Here is expeditioner Dave McCormack’s Weasel story, as it was passed down recently to Dave Connell.

The saga continues, as expeditioners seek the lost weasels of Antarctica.
All stories about weasels are interconnected, and show different points of view.

Perhaps you can add to this story.

Perhaps you can describe how the change from dogs to vehicles changed your experience of Antarctica.

  1. Seems as though there is something to learn about the role (importance) of accidents for example the GPS that was left behind. Accidents that have led to new knowledge or better understandings.

  2. Yes exactly! Isn’t it odd that in schools we don’t encourage accidents and failures. Especially odd in Australia where many of our National icons are celebrations of failure and defeat (Anzac Day, Waltzing Matilda, Burke and Wills, Eureka).
