Feathers of Oz and Humpback whale

Feathers from Australian birds were collected around Oz in 2016 by various people and provided by Claire Sives. Song of Humpback whale was recorded near Kerguelen in 2015 by Brian Miller from the Australian Antarctic Division.

Improvising under camera with straight-ahead, stop-motion animation, allows the seemingly random movement feathers to form their own dance. Setting the improvised dance to the regular rhythm of the whale’s song allows me (and you) to imagine a relationship between birds and whales.

I imagine the whale leading the dance.
