In his new book, Terra Antarctica (2007), William Fox writes about how the language of the arts and sciences (our ‘cultural means’) are developed to perceive and describe Antarctica.

Selecting words from The Antarctic Dictionary for inclusion in this thesaurus, I choose those most immediately obvious as ‘landscape’ words, reflecting my present understanding of that concept. This can only expand. Or the term ‘landscape’ may in time vanish altogether.
