Improvising sounds to animations

Animator and sound artist Paul Fletcher (right) leads a workshop at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), in improvising sounds to accompany animations.
Animation students improvise with sounds as they play their animations of deep ocean life.
Back in the animation studio, the students reflect on how sound can be used in animation to express their relationship to nature.

Paul Fletcher reflects on sound as the primal language. Today’s workshop with his students was a start on them developing a library of sounds for use in future projects.

I visit the VCA’s Wilin Centre and catch up again with Tiriki Onus and meet Megan McPherson who has joined Wilin to develop new online programs. ‘Wilin’ means ‘fire’.

Tiriki explains that water is the connector and guides me to the ‘River Languages’ exhibition now showing in the Melbourne Museum.
